Joie de Vivre

For this project I had some difficulty. I first set out to take some photographs of Caleb and Arlen catching Frisbees. Getting a good angle and motion capturing the subjects was pretty difficult and I did not take any pictures I liked. Luckily Paul and Logan were there when i was attempting to take pictures. This re-occurring pose in the photographs was kind of just random. Through out the rest of the photos i wasn't sure how much or how not much to relate all four the the photographs. I wish i had taken some different photographs. For this project I found it kind of hard to create ideas or find subjects at school. I also found Lartigue's work very interesting for many ideas. I enjoyed his childish style of photography. The variety of Lartigue's photography provided inspiration for this project.
I do not think this set of photos is entirely successful in its unity. Three of the photographs are fairly alike in both formal and conceptual properties, the outlier is the one of Ben skateboarding. This photo still displays the circular shape of the body, however, the viewer of the photograph would most likely not gain joy or happiness when observing it. A formal quality that all of the photographs contain is some kind of line or shape that passes through of circumscribes the subjects. This was an aesthetic choice by the photographer to create a emphasis on the subjects. The photograph of Logan, by himself, only contains Logan and a brick wall. Because of the lack of subject, I took this photo without leaving the viewer able to see the ground. This leaves the viewer without knowing where Logan is in relation to the ground. In other the photos you are able to tell exactly what the subjects are doing. In this photo, however, we do not really know what Logan could have been doing.
