Vin Muniz

Vik Muniz, as an artist, started in a medium which may have greatly shaped the popularity of his works today. This work of Muniz's depicts a fantastical scene with crazy bridges and castle like towers. Although this is an extremely detailed "drawing" it is created entirely with black thread. A viewer of this work, will immediately be astonished by the creator's detail and attention to value. On top of that, the viewer will then somehow realize it is made entirely of black thread only to add to the viewer's impression of Muniz's work. This thread drawing collection of Muniz also allows the viewer to understand drawing in a different way, making each line a thread. When the thread, or pencil lines are put together and near, they create a value.

In Muniz's chocolate series, he depicts a posterized image using a variety of thickness of chocolate to create a surprisingly detailed image. This collection shows a re-occurring theme of Muniz's work. Muniz takes images and converts them to a media that is unique to the viewer. Although these medias are unique, at the same time they are familiar to almost every living human. Chocolate, thread, sugar, jelly, and peanut butter are all on the list of being used to create art by Muniz.
